He was predeceased by: his parents, Everett Smith and Viola Campbell Smith; his siblings, Claude Smith, J. M. Smith, Birchel Smith, Waveline Hill and Geraldine Smith; and his cousin Earl Ray Stacy.
He is survived by: his daughters, Natasha Smith of Charlottesville, VA and Tiffany Hammonds (Jason) of Union, KY; his friend Kathy Herald; his stepgranddaughters, Amelia and Olivia; and his nephew Friend.
