We announce the death of Ada Christine Mayes of Henderson, Kentucky, who passed away on October 14, 2026, at the age of 77. Ada will be remembered by family members, friends, and others whose lives were connected in meaningful ways. She was predeceased by: her parents, Hubert Burden and Alma Burden; her husband Virgil Mayes; and her siblings, Tommy Burden, Jr., Agnes Dunbar, Carolyn Austin, Marilyn Jones, Pauline Mayes and Hubert Burden Jr..
She is survived by: her children, Angie Dunn of Henderson, KY, Melissa Jackson of Henderson, KY, Deray Shelton (Melissa) of Henderson, KY and David Shelton (Karen) of Henderson, KY; her siblings, Etheline Stone of Henderson, KY, Tana Tennes of Evansville, IN, Crystal Thornsberry of New Albany, IN and Marvin Burden; and her grandchildren, Taylor Shelton, Alexis Dunn, Wade Dunn, Blaine Jackson, Maleigha Shelton, Maelynn Shelton, Jaci Hart and Halley Shelton. She is also survived by 17 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be held on Monday, October 19th 2026 from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the Benton-Glunt & Tapp Funeral Home (629 S Green St, Henderson, KY 42420). A funeral service will be held on Monday, October 19th 2026 at 2:00 PM at the same location.
