He was predeceased by: his parents, Luther Messer and Martha Mills Messer; his wife Della Mae Mills; his children, Arvil Rodney Messer and Cathy Bunch; his great grandchild Andrew Jackson; his siblings, Johnny, Luther Jr., Floyd Messer, Cledia Jackson, Marie Charles and Helen Haynes; and his brothers-in-law, Lonnie Jackson, Wayne Haynes and Gary Charles.
He is survived by: his daughters, Martha Jordan (Derrick) of Barbourville and Debbie Jackson (Larry) of Gray; his son-in-law Dale Bunch of Green Road; his sisters-in-law, Dora Faye Messer of Earlville, IL and Helen Fay Messer of Girdler; his brothers, Jimmy Messer (Christine) of Girdler, Chester Messer of Barbourville and Dexter Messer (Sue) of Hinkle; his grandchildren, Raven Engle (Kyle), Adam Jackson, Sarah Tye, Christian Bunch (Alexus), Dalton Bunch (Bry McCombs), Payton Jordan and Raymond Smith; and his great grandchildren, Aurora, Jeremiah, Asteria Jackson, Slade Bunch and Jovi Jaymes Engle.
A funeral service was held on Friday, September 11th 2026 at 1:00 PM at the Parkway Baptist Church (93 Cougar Edge Rd, Barbourville, KY 40906).
