We announce the death of Richard Edwin Smith of Independence, Kentucky, who passed away on October 19, 2026, at the age of 86. Richard will be remembered by family members, friends, and others whose lives were connected in meaningful ways. Richard will be remembered for the impact he had on the lives of those around him. Friends, family, and colleagues will cherish their memories and the time shared. Those who knew Richard will remember moments of kindness, warmth, and presence. Though words cannot fully capture his life, the legacy of connections and experiences remains. Richard’s absence will be deeply felt by those who valued his companionship.
He was predeceased by: his parents, Earl Edwin and Heloise Evelyn Maxey Smith; his grandson Charles Wells, Jr.; and his stepbrother David Sacksteder. He is survived by: his children, Brian Edward Smith (Greg) of Covington and Lori Brewer (Rod) of Georgetown; his grandson Michael Wells (Destiny); and his great grandchildren, Levi, Cooper and Tucker Wells.
A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, October 28th 2026 at 1:00 PM at the Wells Family Farm Cemetery (1505 Folsom Jonesville Rd, Jonesville, KY 41052).
