He was predeceased by: his parents, John D. Gunn and Cordie Mae Wilson Gunn; and his siblings, Thelma Ford, Opal "Jenny" Murphy, Georgie Daniels, Model Munsell, Cleo Harper, Clara Mae Munsell, Stan Gunn, John Raymond Gunn, David Earl Gunn, John Gunn and Elmo Gunn.
He is survived by: his children, Joe Gunn Jr. (Lucy) of Chatham, IL, Randy Gunn of Peoria, IL and Jamie Lee Fuller (Jake) of Evansville, IN; his brother Leon Gunn of Blandville, KY; his grandchildren, Joshua J. Gunn (Lindsay), Jordan M. Gunn, Chloe A. Gunn (Joseph), Yael Fuller and Eden Fuller; and his great grandchildren, Grady Gunn, Gannon Gunn and Gibson Gunn. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
For their contributions to country music, Elmo and his brothers were inducted into the Legends of South Dakota Country Music Hall of Fame & Museum in 2012.
