He was predeceased by: his parents, Robert Thomas Ray and Maude Clark Ray; his former wife Vera Banks Ray; his wife Faye Sweeney Ray; his daughter Patsy Ray; his granddaughter Tonya Spalding; and his siblings, Billy Ray, James Thomas Ray, Mary Elizabeth Hullett, Bobbie Chadwell and Rose Holtzclaw.

He is survived by: his daughter Marian Statom (Joe); his grandchildren, Justin Statom, Brian Ray (Kristin) and Megan Whitmer; his brother Donnie Ray (Gwinette); and his great grandchildren, Tyler, Olivia Spalding, Lauren, Ella Whitmer, Eliza Jane, Lucie and Samson Ray.
