He was predeceased by: his parents, Thomas Cecil and Mary Jeanette Hughes Thompson; and his siblings, Frances Blandford, Ed Thompson, Bill Thompson, Cecelia Mattingly, Bert Thompson, Charles Richard Thompson and Aline DeNardi.

He is survived by: his wife Martha Mattingly Thompson; his son Bill Thompson (Don) of Louisville; and his sister Margaret Thompson of Raywick. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

Visitation was held on Monday, September 7th 2026 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Mattingly Funeral Home (195 Holy Cross Rd, Loretto, KY 40037). A prayer was held on Monday, September 7th 2026 at 6:30 PM at the same location. A Mass of Christian burial was held on Tuesday, September 8th 2026 at 11:00 AM at the Saint Charles Catholic Church (675 State Hwy 327, Lebanon, KY 40033).
