He was predeceased by: his parents, Oscar Clarke Nichols and Ruth Grant Nichols; his sisters, Barbara Nichols, Sandy Howard and Teresa West; his stepbrothers, J. R. Dailey and Tommy Dailey; and his grandchildren, Cameron Tyler Nichols and Hannah Perry.

He is survived by: his wife Patsy Flynn Nichols; his children, Patti Belcher (John), Tim Nichols (Amelia), Lisa Grigsby (Roger) and Jenny Craig (Tim); his stepsisters, Linda Birch (Sam) and Connie Harney; his grandchildren, Caryn (Matt), Josh, Micah, Preston, Maddie (Alex), David (Megan), Natalie, Wes, Lauren (Ryan), Logan, Landon and Liam; his great grandchildren, Alex (CJ), Haley, Nevaeh, Samantha (Chase), Johnathan, McKenzie (Fred), Max, Eleanor, Maggie, Elena and Rhema; and his great great grandchildren, Brooklynn, Braxton, London, Aaliyah, Nevaeh of Amiyah, MJ, Marius, Diana and Mason.
