It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of Robert Burnap Shapiro in Lexington, Kentucky, born in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, who passed away on November 16, 2025, at the age of 80, leaving to mourn family and friends. In the hush of twilight, as the stars twinkle in silent homage, we reflect on the legacy Robert leaves behind and his impact on the lives of his loved ones. Though Robert may no longer walk among us, his spirit lives on in the memories held dear by his family and friends, a guiding light that illuminates their paths in times of darkness.
He was predeceased by: his parents, Edward Martin Shapiro and Antionette Martha Post Shapiro; and his brother John M. Shapiro (Elaine Janet O'Gara). He is survived by: his brother Louis Welles Shapiro (Nan Shapiro) of Silver Spring, MD; and his wife Elaine Janet Ogara. He is also survived by eight nieces and nephews.
They taught at the Capper Foundation, adapting dances for people of all abilities including dancers in wheelchairs. They were awarded the Easter Seals Capper Foundation Founders Award in 2013 and Volunteer award in 2019.
