He was predeceased by: his parents, Elbert Sumner and Dora Cox Sumner; and his siblings, Estil Sumner, Hazel Patton, Irene Perry, Glenna Strunk and Thersa Worley.

He is survived by: his wife Jewel Sumner; his children, James Anthony Sumner (Paula), Ronnie A. Sumner (Diane), Michael Andrew Sumner, Connie Ping and Sandra Brown (Carl, Jr.); and his siblings, Noble Sumner (Pat), Carl Sumner (Janine) and Bonnie Watters (Harry). He is also survived by eleven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
