With sadness, we share the passing of Dorotha Mae Payne of Louisville, Kentucky. Dorotha, born on August 10, 1934, passed away on September 8, 2026. Family and friends are welcome to send flowers or leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
She was predeceased by: her parents, Ewell Emmitt and Juanita Emmitt; her husband Hilles Clay Payne; her son Greg Payne; her grandson Donnie Lay; and her siblings, LeRoy Emmitt, Jessie Emmitt and Bessie Clayton.
She is survived by: her children, Charlotte Cummings (Dwayne), Peggy Lay (Donnie), Perry Payne (Connie) and Dana Adkins (Timmy); and her grandchildren, Tracy Lay, Shannon Cummings, Chad Cummings (Brenda), Jeremy Lay (Mandy), Cory Lay (Kristy), Amanda Wooden (Chad), Kyle Adkins (Jenna), Bradley Payne (Laura), Ashley Walton (Ian) and Cody Adkins (Desirae). She is also survived by 22 great grandchildren; 2 great-great- grandchildren along with a host of dear family and friends.
Visitation was held on Sunday, September 13th 2026 from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM and on Monday, September 14th 2026 at 10:00 AM at the Chapel of Schoppenhorst, Underwood and Brooks Funeral Home (4895 N Preston Hwy, Shepherdsville, KY 40165). A funeral service was held on Monday, September 14th 2026 at 12:00 PM at the same location. A burial was held on Monday, September 14th 2026 at the Brookland Cemetery (4897 N Preston Hwy, Shepherdsville, KY 40165).
