He was predeceased by: his parents, Mont Hammond and Mable Hammond; and his siblings, Jack Hammond, Clyde Hammond, Billy Ray Hammond, Anita Haney, Ronnie Hammond, Charles Hammond and Minnie Sue Bailey.
He is survived by: his wife Anna Jean; his children, Amanda Hammond Petrie (Curtis) and Joe Darrell Hammond, II (Katherine Tapp); his grandchildren, Evan Tanner Petrie, Isabella Sydney Grace Petrie and Lauren Olivia Claire Petrie; and his sister Pauletta Barrett.
Visitation was held on Wednesday, November 5th 2025 from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the Crum Funeral Home (498 New Rte 3, Inez, KY 41224). A funeral service was held on Wednesday, November 5th 2025 at 2:00 PM at the same location.
At the request of the family, in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Dementia Society of America.
