He was predeceased by: his father Lester Sweeney. He is survived by: his wife Jennifer Carter Sweeney; his daughters, Maddie Wright (John) and Cassie Sweeney (Jake Payne); his mother Janice Sweeney; his siblings, Pamela Wendlegast (Greg), Lorrie Craft (Mike) and Bart Sweeney; his nephews, Thomas, David Wendlegast, Brad, Austin Craft and Andy Sweeney; and his granddaughter Ruth Mae Wright.

Memorial gifts in lieu of flowers are suggested to be made to his family in care of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church for the Rick Sweeney Fund.
