He was predeceased by: his son Micheal Andrew Carnighan; and his parents, Ellen Gates Carnighan and Robert Mesmer Carnighan. He is survived by: his wife Carol Wiedmer Carnighan; his daughter Kathryn Anne Carnighan; his sister Mary Ellen Weaver; and his grandchildren, Poppy, Paxton and Piper Kuhn.

Visitation will be held on Friday, October 24th 2025 from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Pearson Funeral Home (149 Breckenridge Ln, Louisville, KY 40207).
