He was predeceased by: his parents, Ellis Hampton and RenaVae Hampton; his brother Roger E. Hampton; and the mother of his child Myrna Prather. He is survived by: his son Earl W. Hampton; his siblings, Carolyn A. Grey, Deborah Hampton and Richard "Ricky" Hampton; his grandchildren, Samantha R. Coater (Brian), Evan W. Hampton (Taylor), Jacob M. Hampton (Tori) and Emma G. Hampton; and his great grandchildren, Christian M. Curtsinger, Corey M. Curtsinger and Cole M. Coater.

In lieu of flowers, the family would like memorial contributions in Sammy's name to be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital.
