He was predeceased by: his parents, Harrison Stepp and Edna Newsome Stepp; his daughter Brenda Kay Stepp Sammons; and his brothers, Russell Stepp and Benny Newsome.

He is survived by: his sons, James Stepp (Sue) of Louisa, KY and Mitchell Lee Stepp (Patricia) of Crum, WV; his siblings, Prentice Newsome of Inez, KY and Ernestine Moore; his grandchildren, Brent Sammons (Sarah), Chris Stepp (Glenna) and Misty Deskins (Harry); his great grandchildren, Benjamin Sammons, Owen Sammons, Kristen Chloee Stepp, Brandi Watts, James Watts, Jack Stacy and Renee Stacy; and his great great grandchildren, Adalyn McBride and Grayson Watts.
