He was predeceased by: his parents, John Allen and Alice Reynolds Allen; his wife Barbara Dotson Allen; his brothers, John Allen, Jr. and Robert R. Allen; and his son James D.'Jim'Allen.
He is survived by: his son David D. Allen II (Jennifer Schoelles) of Oxford, Mississippi; his daughter-in-law Shelia Duff Allen of Lexington, Kentucky.; his grandchildren, David D.'D. J.' Allen III (Lex K. Peel), Drew P. Allen, Matthew J. Williams (Haleigh) and Carter J. Williams; his great grandchild Jonah; his grandparents, Jim, Samson and Arlo; his siblings, Stephen R. Allen (Terri) of Lexington, Judith Colvin McCreary of Prestonsburg and Mary Alice Leslie of Lexington; and his siblings-in-law, Charles O. Dotson (Cathryn Dooly) of West End and Sarah B. Allen of Prestonsburg, KY..
