He was predeceased by: his parents, Cecil Young and Edna Young; his wife Ernestyne Young; his sons, Michael Young and Kevin Young; and his sisters, Donna Price and Glenda Mosley.

He is survived by: his sons, James E. Young, Jr. (Susan) of Mayfield and Brandon Keith Young of Mayfield; and his grandchildren, Nicole Green, Dustin Young, Dana Young, Jonathan Young, Alan Young, Amber Downing, Melissa Tynes and Rachel Adkison. He is also survived by fourteen great-grandchildren.
