He was predeceased by: his parents, Martha M. Crittendon and A. J. Lawson; his son John W. Lawson II; his stepfather Dave A. Crittendon; and his siblings, Martha J. Crittendon, Bernadette Lawson and James Lawson.
He is survived by: his children, Kristy M. Lawson, Chris Biggers, Mark Lawson, Michael Chad Lawson, Ryan Lawson and Hunter Lawson; and his siblings, Jeff Lawson, Arthur Lawson, Martin Lawson, David Crittendon Jr., Ruby Crittendon, Peggy Moore and Stephanie Lawson. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews, along with grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
