It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Gayla Winstead of Mount Vernon, Kentucky, who passed away on February 27, 2026, at the age of 78, leaving to mourn family and friends. She was predeceased by: her parents, John Benjamin and Bernice Chaney Sams; her husband James Lee Winstead; her siblings, Perry Sams and Johnita Green; her son-in-law Lonnie Thomas; and her siblings-in-law, Coy Mickey and Rhonda Sams.
She is survived by: her children, Patrick Winstead (Carol) of Mt. Vernon and Angie Thomas (Jimmy Kiser) of Brodhead; her grandchildren, Emilee Thomas, Carly Pruitt (Matt) and Ryan Winstead (Hannah); her great grandchildren, Amelia-Bee Pruitt and Myles Douglas Pruitt; and her sister-in-law Edra Jo Mickey (Marion Whitehouse).
