He was predeceased by: his parents, Jacqueline Watson Gilbert and Don Payne Gilbert; his stepfather William "Bill" Daughtery; and his brother Steven Payne Gilbert. He is survived by: his wife Hazel Scott; his children, Justin Gilbert of Athens, GA and Megan Gilbert of Hazel, KY; and his sisters, Denice Reed (Shannon), Deidre Thompson (Dean) and Marianne Curry (Craig). He is also survived by 2 aunts, 2 nieces and 6 nephews.
