He was predeceased by: his parents, Vestel Mercer and Lessie Taylor Mercer; his wife Lola "Polly" Mercer; and his siblings, Delbert Mercer, Lee Mercer and Claude Robert Mercer.
He is survived by: his children, George Mercer (Katalyn), Lego Gomez-Perez (Griselda), Tammy Sharp (Darrell) and Gail Vaughn (Fred); his sisters, Vivian "Sis" Payne (Billy) and Violet Burton; and his sisters-in-law, Delores Mercer and Jenny Mercer. He is also survived by several grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
