He was predeceased by : his parents, Menifee Whitis and Lilly Mae Harper Whitis; and his siblings, Raymond, Emmitt, Ellis, Audie, Bruce Whitis, Gertrude Sims, LeVon Poynter and Jessie Poynter.
He is survived by : his wife Lillian Zoraida Tees Whitis; his children, David Lee Whitis, Gary Wayne Whitis, Terri Lynn Whitis Chaney (Mark Bradley Chaney), Tammy Sue Whitis Thompson (Jeff Thompson), Debra Whitis Hines (David), Angela Whitis Weston (Jim) and Dolores Zoraida Phoenix O'Donnell; and his siblings, Wayne, Junior Whitis, Evelene Phelps and Betty Lou Meece. He is also survived by twelve grandchildren and twenty-five great grandchildren.
