He was predeceased by: his parents, Mary Mertle and George F Mertle; his nephew Paul Mertle; and his siblings, Claire Ledonne and George Mertle.

He is survived by: his nieces and nephews, Mike Ledonne (Kim), Kathy Meyers (Mike) of Highland Heights, KY, Terry Mazzella (Steve), Ray Mertle (Jenny), Peggy Whitacre (Marty), Debbie Lorenz (Paul), Sharon Engelhard (Eric), Theresa Mertle and Gerard Mertle.
