He is survived by: his fiancée Heather Isaacs; his daughter Arya Lynn Schaffer; his parents, Mary Schaffer of Nicholasville, KY. and Jeffry Schaffer of Nicholasville, KY.; his sisters, Rebecca Schaffer and Bethany Schaffer; his grandmother Marion Schaffer Day of Easton, Pennsylvania.; and his nephew Graydon William LaFortune.

Memorials may be made to Southland Church, Wellington Church, the Friends of the Red River Gorge, or through time spent in the beautiful Red River Gorge Sam loved so much.
