With heavy hearts, we announce the death of Kathleen Atherton of Owensboro, Kentucky, who passed away on December 11, 2025 at the age of 76. Leave a sympathy message to the family on the memorial page of Kathleen Atherton to pay them a last tribute.
She was predeceased by: her parents, Fletcher Edwards and Evelyn Fisler Edwards; her husband Billy Atherton; her siblings, Janice Hays and John M. Edwards; and her nephew Rick Edwards.
She is survived by: her stepchildren, Tammy Atherton-Gillaspie (Jimmy) and Mark Atherton (D. J.); her grandchildren, Logan Atherton, Lily Lee (Ross), Maddie Atherton, Grace Atherton and Lucas Gillaspie (Maegan); her great grandchildren, Jay Atherton, Rae Lynn Atherton, Jack Lee and Sadie Gillaspie; her siblings' children, Melissa Edwards, Robert Edwards, Chad Edwards, Jodie Brown, Mandy Prado, Brad Hays, Brian Hays and Bethany Hays; her brothers, James D. Edwards (Rhonda) and Richard L. Edwards (Jacquelyn); and her cousins, Susan Beaulin and Judy Marlowe.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 16th 2025 from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the Haley McGinnis Funeral Home & Crematory (519 Locust St, Owensboro, KY 42301). A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, December 16th 2025 at 1:00 PM at the same location.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Kathy's honor to the Alzheimer's Association, Greater Kentucky and Southern Indiana Chapter, Kaden Tower, 6100 Dutchmans Lane Suite 401, Louisville, Kentucky 40205.
