He was predeceased by: his parents, John Bates and Helen Hughes Bates; his wife Priscilla Bates; his siblings, Bonnie Lance, Joyce Ann Bates and Joe Bates; and his stepson John Jourdan.
He is survived by: his children, Teri Roll of Evansville, Bret Bates (Noelle) of Ft. Myers and Tony Bates of Owensboro; and his siblings, Ed, Jerry, Tommy, Tim, Jeffrey, Patricia, Priscilla, Barbara and Pam. He is also survived by seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; four step-grandchildren.
Visitation was held on Saturday, May 31st 2025 from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM at the James H. Davis Funeral Home and Crematory (3009 Frederica St, Owensboro, KY 42301). A funeral service was held on Saturday, May 31st 2025 at 2:00 PM at the same location.
