He was predeceased by: his parents, Sherman L. Carter and Myrtle Rich Carter; his wife Barbara Jean Nunnery Carter; his daughter Deborah Ann Carter; and his siblings, John J. Carter, Ellen Coleman Cecil and Foustina Buckel.
He is survived by: his son Stephen Carter; his daughter-in-law Barbara Ann Carter of Owingsville, Kentucky.; his grandchildren, Matt Carter (Christie) and Jaime Penix (Bryan); and his great grandchildren, Carter Penix, Parker Penix, Colt Carter, Cade Carter and Case Carter.
Visitation was held on Tuesday, May 19th 2026 from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM at the Son Funeral Home (703 Hambley Blvd, Pikeville, KY 41501). A funeral service was held on Tuesday, May 19th 2026 at 2:00 PM at the same location.
