He was predeceased by: his former wife Emma Louise Smith Upshaw; his son Edward Michael Upshaw; and his parents, Lee Tom Upshaw and Annabelle Turner Upshaw. He is survived by: his wife Robbie McGowan Upshaw; his son Tim Upshaw (Claire) of Kingsport, Tennessee; and his grandchildren, Ben Upshaw of Durham, Matt Upshaw of New York, Julie Hanks of Knoxville, Bryan Upshaw of Jonesborough and Amy Upshaw of Washington, D. C.. He is also survived by 12 great grandchildren.
