He was predeceased by: his parents, Alton Dykes and Betty Jewell Champion Dykes; his wife Patricia "Pat" Boatwright Dykes; his stepson Dusty Downey; and his siblings, Sharon Dykes and Gary Dykes.

He is survived by: his sister Sheila Tucker of Paducah, Kentucky; and his granddaughter Leila Downey of Gilbertsville, Kentucky. He is also survived by three nieces and eight great nieces and nephews.
