He was predeceased by: his parents, Walter C. Mitchell and Maude Keller Mitchell; and his siblings, Warren, Charlie, Clyde, Earl, Kenny, Jerry, Norman, Jane and Lottie.

He is survived by: his son James; his daughter-in-law Colleen Mitchell of Paducah, KY; and his daughter Brenda French of Bourbonnais, IL.. He is also survived by six grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
