He was predeceased by: his parents, George Sturgeon and Madie Sturgeon; his sons, Vernon E. Sturgeon and James William Sturgeon; and his brother George Sturgeon.
He is survived by: his daughters, Sharon Otey of Paducah and Connie Thomas of Paducah; his siblings, Ben Sturgeon and Pearl Smoot of Worthville, KY; and his grandchildren, Aimee Lacey of Carbondale, IL, Kimm Soto, Angel Davis of Portland, OR, Jason Sturgeon of Desoto, IL, Jessica Hughes of Paducah, Rachel Northington of Mayfield, Stephanie Smith and Jacob Warren of Murray. He is also survived by 24 great-grandchildren; and numerous great-great-grandchildren.
