He was predeceased by: his parents, Donald Combs (Page) and Alcie Howard Combs of Pikeville; his brother Steven Daniel Combs of Pikeville; and his grandparents, Noah Daniel, Edith Chase Howard of Wayland, Emanuel and Mollie Napier Combs of Hazard.
He is survived by: his wife Leslie Adams Combs; his children, Elizabeth Anne Alcie Combs and Donald Howard Combs III (Emily); his brother Robert Combs (Afif); his sister-in-law Teresa Hefner Combs (Ambre Robinette); and his mother-in-law Ivory Staton Moore. He is also survived by two nieces, one nephew, and several cousins.
