He was predeceased by: his parents, Pierce Hays and Lucietta Jane Hays (Hamilton); and his siblings, Perry Hays and Tanicah Little. He is survived by: his children, David Hays Jr. (Michelle), Steven Ray Hays (Sally) and Lucinda Haddix; his sister Leola Prater; his grandchildren, Sabrina Jane Hays, Presley Layken Haddix, Angel Marie Preston, Jordan Preston and Isabella Marie Taulbee; and his nephew Danny Miller (Barbara Hays).
