He was predeceased by: his parents, James Edward and Parthea Kathryn Riffe Shaffer; his sisters, Rebecca Ann Shaffer Watts, Roberta Jo "Robbie" Shaffer Chaffin and Bettye Jayne Shaffer Salmon; his brothers-in-law, Ron Salmon, Danny Hall and Dale Watts; and his nephew Adam Hall.
He is survived by: his children, Emily Clark (Cameron) of Chesapeake, Ohio, Andrew Shaffer (Jeanna) of Ashland and Jacob Shaffer of Grayson; his stepson Jared Fryer of Grayson; his grandchildren, Levi Clark, Lilly Clark and Chase Fryer; and his sisters, Donna Hutchinson (Mike) of Grayson, Vivian Evans (Kenneth) of Rush and Jeanie Frederick (Dan) of Rush.
