It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Billy Ray Walton (Russell Springs, Kentucky), born in Oakland, Mississippi, who passed away on December 9, 2022, at the age of 85, leaving to mourn family and friends. Billy Ray “Bill” Walton, of Russell Springs, passed away on Friday, December 9, 2022, at his home. He was 85 years of age.
Bill was born in Oakland, Mississippi, April 21, 1937, son of the late Ezra Harris and Effie Cook Walton. He played football for the Mississippi State Bulldogs. Bill was a founding member of the Russell County Rescue Squad, serving Russell County for forty-two years, and was the first Emergency Medical Technician in Russell County. Bill was a member of Jamestown Christian Church. He loved to fish.
He is survived by his son, Ray (and Melanie) Walton, of Lexington; his daughters, Maria Walton, of Bowling Green, and Lisa (and Mike) Bradshaw, of Jamestown; his grandsons, Connor Walton, Jason (and Andrea) Bradshaw, and Kyle Bradshaw; and his great-grandson, Caynan Bradshaw.
Along with his parents, Bill is preceded in death by his wife, Rose Derrington Walton, who passed away on July 19, 2020; his brother, E.H. Walton; and his sister, Irene Walker.
Funeral services were 1:00 p.m., Monday, December 12, 2022, at Bernard Funeral Home, with Bro. Bill Welker and Bro. Bucky Walters officiating. Interment followed in Russell County Memorial Gardens.
