He was predeceased by: his parents, Robert Smith and Thomas; his wife Patty Sue Smith; and his siblings, Bobby Smith, David Smith, Johnny Malloy, Patsy Smith and Livina Teems.
He is survived by: his children, Clayton Baxter Smith (Stephanie) of LaGrange, Wendy Kay Penrod (Christopher) of O'Fallon and Julie Ann Blake (Tommy) of Sharon Grove; and his sister Cathy Phillips (Tom) of Southport. He is also survived by seven grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
The family has asked that in lieu of flowers that donations be made to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital .
