He was predeceased by: his parents, Butch Knasel and Brenda Knasel (Brooks); and his brother James "JD" Knasel Jr.. He is survived by: his close friend Anna Keith; his children, David Knasel Jr. and Tagen Nickle; his siblings, Joyce Wood and John Knasel; and his stepsons, Travis Keith, Billy Keith, Claude Keith, Curtis Keith and Eugene Keith. He is also survived by eight grandchildren.
