He was predeceased by: his parents, Earl Lay and Enzie Lay; his wife Ann Shirley Lay; his daughter Sheryl Ann Shoemaker; and his siblings, Betty Ann Starnes (Richard), Edwin Lewis Lay (Margaret), Max Leighton Lay (Edith) and James Howard Lay (Ann).
He is survived by: his son-in-law Neal Shoemaker; his son Larry Travis Lay (Ren); his siblings, Rose Gover (Johnny), Earlene Bullock (Buddy), Linda Edwards (Lyle) and Bill Lay (Brenda); his brother-in-law Chester Stringer (Karoline); his grandchildren, Britani Shoemaker, Brooke Begley (Jordan), Bree Shoemaker (Israel), Stephanie Hubbard (Clarence) and Brye Lay; and his great grandchildren, Quaneisha Shoemaker, A. C. Prater, Jalil McBride, Nola Begley, Graham Begley, Eden Begley, Forrest Begley, Helen Begley, Morgan Jones, Julian Jones, Bella Hubbard and Walker Hammond.
