He was predeceased by: his parents, Richard Simpson and Janie Capps Simpson; his brothers, Richard Ronald Simpson and Robert Hugh Simpson; and his sister-in-law Luanne Simpson.

He is survived by: his wife Tammie Taylor Simpson; his sister Carolyn Simpson Sutherlin (Robert Calvin Sutherlin); his nieces and nephews, Lisa Sutherlin Jackson, Kimberly Garrison Sutherlin, Heather Brooke Merritt, Monica Paigee Simpson, Sarah Taylor Silverman, Robert Grant Sutherlin, Richard Todd Simpson, Wendell Scott Simpson and Nathaniel Ray Taylor; his great-nieces and great-nephews, Victoria Brooke Sutherlin, Amelia Jane Sutherlin, Clara Grace Taylor, Harley Silverman, Will Merritt, Joey Merritt, Ethan Ray Taylor, Henry James Taylor, Levi Silverman and Tyler Silverman; his godson Mackey Melvin Godby; and his great-niece Laura Lane Silverman.

Mike was a University of Kentucky Henry Sites Barker Fellow, past president of The Blakely Family YMCA, past director of Rural Community College Initiative, Somerset Community College and The Somerset- Pulaski County Development Foundation.
