She was predeceased by : her husband Earl Higgins Sr.; her parents, Chadwell Thomas and Bertha Thomas; her siblings, James Thomas and Georgia May Thomas; and her aunt Mary Frances Stewart.

She is survived by : her daughters, Elder Zanetta Thomas, Teresa Higgins, Carol Hobbs and J. D. (Ava Al-Tawil); and her brothers, Edward Thomas, William Thomas and Charles Thomas. She is also survived by twelve grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
