Marylin Sue Thornton Obituary
With solemn hearts, we announce the passing of Marylin Sue Thornton of Sturgis, Kentucky, whose presence will be deeply missed, having departed on October 29, 2025 at the age of 62. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
She was predeceased by: her parents, Ada Lorene and William Gobel Travis; her sisters, LouDon Beavers Davis, Helen-Ann Redd, Judith Adams, Flora-Ellen, Sharon-Diane and Karen Travis; her half-siblings, James C. "Bubb" Travis, Charles Travis, Betty Jane Garner, Billie Ryan and Ernestine Scott; and her brothers-in-law, Jewel Wayne Adams (George), Marshall Beavers, Russell Bethe, Charles Williams and Oscar Sullivan.
She is survived by: her husband Mack Thornton of Sturgis; her daughters, Mandy Perez of Sturgis, Victoria Self (Andrew) of Owensboro, Kate Craig (Justin) of Herrin, Illinois, Christian and Amber Thornton of Sturgis; her stepson Mack T. Thornton (Heather) of Sturgis; her grandchildren, Maddox, Jackson, Beckett and Sophie; her stepgrandchildren, Noah, Jack, Alice and William; and her siblings, Patricia Bethe of Elberfield, Gretta Ridings (Glenn) of Paducah, Linda Foster of Evansville, Indiana and Henry Travis (Joy) of Louisiana. She is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
Visitation was held on Monday, November 3rd 2025 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the Whitsell Funeral Home - Sturgis (609 N Main St, Sturgis, KY 42459). A funeral service was held on Monday, November 3rd 2025 at 1:00 PM at the same location.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
