He was predeceased by: his father James William "Bill" Clifton; his brother James Melvin "Pete" Clifton; his nephew James William "Bill" Clifton; and his great-nephew James William Clifton III. He is survived by: his wife Vickie Phillips Clifton; his sons, Chadwick "Chad" Clifton (Christy) and Barry Clifton; his grandchildren, Carley Clifton, Ian Clifton, Ethan Rice and Jonah Rice; his niece Cheryl Clifton Thompson of Titusville, Florida; his sister-in-law Sylvia Clifton of Newport News, Virginia; Diana (Emerson Okes), Doris (Wayne Thomas), Debby (Don Richardson), Dreama Phillips Swecker of Princeton and Darla Phillips Boone of Salem, Virginia..
Visitation was held on Thursday, September 10th 2026 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM and on Friday, September 11th 2026 from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM. A funeral service was held on Friday, September 11th 2026 at 10:30 AM at the Versailles United Methodist Church (230 Paynes Mill Rd, Versailles, KY 40383). A reception was held on Friday, September 11th 2026 at 11:30 AM at the same location. A burial was held on Friday, September 11th 2026 at 1:30 PM at the Camp Nelson National Cemetery (6980 Danville Rd, Nicholasville, KY 40356).
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Gil's memory to Versailles United Methodist Church or Bluegrass Care Navigators (formerly Hospice of the Bluegrass).
