He was predeceased by: his parents, Herbert Lee McCray and Ella Mae McCray Messer; and his siblings, Carolyn Messer Riley, Tina Messer Griggs, Wallace "Bo" McCray, Bill Messer and Jerry McCray.

He is survived by: his daughters, Tonya McCray Combs of Isom, Crystal McCray Reynolds of Hardburly and Melissa McCray Mayhew of Hazard; his siblings, Phyllis McCray Feltner of Jeff, Dean Messer of Tennessee, Thomas Messer of Viper, Lenny Messer of Lexington and Shane Messer of Hazard; his girlfriend Marie Somerton of Hazard; and his close friend Mary Ruth Caudill. He is also survived by great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other relatives & friends.
