He was predeceased by: his parents, Boss Messer and Eva Hicks Messer; his wife Hilda Fay Chipman Messer; his son Jeff Messer; and his brothers, Dallas and Alva Messer.
He is survived by: his daughters, Jennifer Donovan of Hebron and Janice Reams-Stamm of Walton; his grandchildren, Brandi Monday, Joshua Messer, Jessica Smith, Ashley Donovan-Seth and Brittney Donovan; and his sister Alice Starns of Union. He is also survived by 10 great-grandchildren.
