He was predeceased by: his parents, Porter Gibson and Dorothy Upchurch Toler; his son Michael Jr.; and his brothers, Darrell and Charles Gibson.

He is survived by: his wife Linda "Linn" Gibson; his children, Christopher Gibson, Jerry Broxton, Joseph Richardson, Michelle Gibson, Kristy Gibson, Jeannie Gibson, Amy Gibson, Nicki Tracy, Renee Riggins and Teresa Minnich; and his sisters, Patricia Cox and Shelia Maxwell. He is also survived by 45 grandchildren, and 13 great grandchildren.
