He is survived by: his wife Maureen Stewart Downs; his children, James Crawford Downs, Jr. (Georgia) of Birmingham, AL, Anne Downs Bollinger (Stan) of Alexandria, LA, Aza Downs Bowlin (Tim) of Baton Rouge, LA, Abby Downs Linzay (Trey) of Shreveport, LA and Caroline D'Amico Simons of Pineville, LA; his grandchildren, Lindsey Bollinger Kendrick (Charlie), Sarah Bollinger, James, Julia Downs, Pierce, Strader Bowlin, Isabelle, Joseph Simons, Bo, Hazel and Eloise Linzay; his sister Ellarene Downs Galloway; and his siblings-in-law, Priscilla S. Lanham, Ronald C. Stewart (Sherry) and James V. Stewart (Kathy). He is also survived by nieces, nephews and extended cousins.
Visitation was held on Friday, September 11th 2026 from 5:30 PM to 7:00 PM and on Saturday, September 12th 2026 from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM. A rosary was held on Friday, September 11th 2026 at 7:00 PM at the Kramer Chapel. A Mass of Christian burial was held on Saturday, September 12th 2026 at 10:00 AM at the St. Francis Xavier Cathedral (626 4th St, Alexandria, LA 71301).
