He is survived by: his wife Ruby Stevenson Mitchell; his daughters, Nelda Freeman and Gail Demby (Charlston); his grandson Quentin Freeman; his siblings, Dorothy Brown, Gayle Pitcher, Juanita Mitchell-Ford, Darlene V. Ford, Herman Mitchell, Roosevelt Mitchell and Donald Mitchell-Ford; and his goddaughter Dawn Haris (Ryan). He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Visitation was held on Sunday, September 13th 2026 from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM and on Monday, September 14th 2026 from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM. A funeral service was held on Monday, September 14th 2026 at 11:00 AM at the Winnfield Funeral Home (7221 Plank Rd, Baton Rouge, LA 70811).
