He was predeceased by: his wife Lou Etta Birdsong Chain; his siblings, Lavonne Tate, Dorothy Choate, George Peter Chain, Frank Dalton Chain, Hardy Brown Chain and J. L. Clinton Chain; and his siblings-in-law, Evelyn and Crandall Goodwin.
He is survived by: his children, Janet Fortner (Burl), Carla West (John), Lori Musgrove Couture, Regina Kingston and Kenny Chain; his grandchildren, Matthew Fortner, Joshua Moore and Courtney Jackson; his great grandchildren, Zy Thompson and Carleigh Fortner; and his sister-in-law Miriam Chain. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.
