He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Carlos Charlie (Carter) and Martish Fife Carter; his daughter Camille Horton Malta; his daughter-in-law Terri Wright Horton; his wife Kathryn Carter; his children, Debbie Jenkins (Bill), Sheila Pearson (Terry), Sandra Vance, Karen Horton Carter (George), Carl Horton and Cheryl Clark (Dennis); his grandchildren, Patches Seely (Mike), Brandon Pace (Shari), Jessica Bennett, Matt Carter (Lacie), Ashley Rayborn (Clayton), Jonathan Clark, Whitney Carter, Hillary Cunningham (Seth), Megan Malta, Sarah Horton and Alex Clark; his great grandchildren, William Jenkins, Jr., Savannah, Shyanne Mitchell, Layla Capurso, Caden Hickman, Addison Carter, Zoie, Elliot Cunningham and Isabella Gray; and his pet Dixie.
